In mineralogy a Crystalline Structure is the unique arrangement of atoms or molecules in a pattern. A crystal’s structure and symmetry play a role in determining its physical properties, such as cleavage, electronic band structure, and optical transparency. It is not just the individual atoms or molecules that express the material’s properties, but the arrangement of those molecules in a repeating pattern.
In the photo series Crystalline Structures, insignificant objects are multiplied and arranged in a repeating pattern. Crystallographic balance and form transform the visual properties of the objects; similar to the way a crystal’s structure transforms it’s physical properties.
